(3987) Water allowance
1 - A term that is an outcome of all considerations of the duty of water, intensity, proposed crop ratio, water available, etc., the numbered use for quantum of water units at the farm-outlet point, authorized, per 1000 acres of culturable irrigable area. The water allowance, therefore, not only defines the size of each outlet for the area to be served but also forms the basis for the design of the distributing channels in successive stages. In specific regions/areas (e.g. Australia), the water allowance varies according to the size of area, i.e. more water for small areas, and less water for larger areas. 2 - See `Duty, or Water duty`, 4885.
